Kwanzaa is rooted in seven guiding principles that honor African heritage and strengthen community: 1. Umoja (Unity) – Building and maintaining unity in our families and communities. 2. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) – Defining, naming, and speaking for ourselves. 3. Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility) – Working together to solve our shared challenges. 4. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) – Supporting and building Black-owned businesses together. 5. Nia (Purpose) – Committing to the collective mission of uplifting and restoring our community. 6. Kuumba (Creativity) – Using our creativity to leave our community better than we found it. 7. Imani (Faith) – Believing in our people, our leaders, and the righteousness of our struggle.
